Fatal pedestrian accident in Bakersfield

On Monday, November 21, there was a fatal pedestrian accident in Bakersfield.

According to Bakersfield police, the accident happened at around 6.00 a.m. n the 5100 block of the Stockdale Highway near New Stine Road. Jose Manuel Zaldua, aged 66, was driving his white gardening truck, but it stalled near the median at the intersection. He got out of the truck to try and fix the problem but was hit by another pickup truck, which was red, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The unidentified driver of the pickup truck was not hurt.

Westbound lanes of Stockdale Highway were closed after the incident for around two hours and although the roads were wet at the time, police do not think that the weather was a factor in the fatality.

The accident remains under investigation.

Three People Died Following Boat Capsized on June Lake

On Saturday, October 15, two men and a boy from Tehachapi died after their boat capsized on June Lake in Mono County.

According to Tehachapi City authorities the bodies of Doug Langston, his 14 year old son Jacob Langston and son in law Caleb Johnson were recovered by the San Bernardino County Sheriff Dive Team on Tuesday, October 18 at around noon.

The accident happened at around 10 a.m. on the Saturday when the boat overturned. There were two survivors who swam to shore where they received medical treatment and were released.

Jacob Langston was a 10th grade student at Tehachapi High School, where his mother is a special education teacher and a school psychologist and counselors were made available for as long as needed.

Details of what caused the accident have not yet been released and the investigation is ongoing.

Two Fatal Accidents in Kern County

On Saturday night, September 10, there were two fatal accidents across Kern County.

According to Bakersfield Police Department the first accident happened shortly after 9 p.m. on Westside Parkway at Coffee Road. It appears that the driver of a silver Toyota SUV had been traveling eastbound on Westside Parkway in the direction of Coffee Road at a high rate of speed. It seems the driver then lost control, left the roadway and flipped several times. The unidentified driver who was the only occupant of the vehicle was declared dead at the scene.

At around the same time there was a second deadly crash which involved five cars on Panama Road just east of Cottonwood Road. In this incident the driver of one vehicle, who is suspected of being drunk, was hospitalized with serious injuries and one person was killed. Another three people were injured and a dog in one of the vehicles was also killed.
